Ok so it has been some time since posting anything. I have been painting but getting things fully completed is another thing.

Fall has arrived

So here in the Ottawa region fall has arrived and with it requests for fall colors. To be honest how can one not be inspired by the colors of fall in this part of Canada. I thought I knew what fall looked like and since moving to Ottawa it has been like someone removed a color dampener from my eyes.

So here are 6 "Lazy Jefferson's" that I've painted over the last two weeks and there are more to come. Keep on watching and please comment when you feel inclined to do so and to the ones whom have ordered/supported this hobby of mine I would like to say a big "Thank you" and I hope that all of you are happy with your "Lazy Jefferson".

So I was asked to do a red flower much like the green. Red ... is a fun color to paint with.
Here it is.

Ok not really but the nail hook works well. I think I might branch out to cutting out different sized circles and paint them up for a wall collage.

I will keep you posted as to if I do this and how it turns out.

Well when this one started out I was not sure I would be happy with this one. Well I was wrong. Really happy with the layered look and texture of the center.

So here is one of the new ones. Again another take on yellow and red but with more blending. As well there is a red tone to the center. I have to say I am happy with this one.

Oh and I finally got to use a router I was given 10 years ago (thanks to my father-in-law). I bought a nail hook bit and now all the "Lazy Jefferson's" can be hung up on a wall when it's not being used.

Not the best lighting but I like that they can be hung up now. Again these are meant to be functional art.

Yellow is just a fun color. If I was going to give this one a feeling it would be happy.

So my lovely sister-in-law is out visiting us as we moved away 17 months ago. Being that I've been giving most of the posted "Lazy Jefferson's" to the ladies in our family she had to have one as well. I now have my new favorite. I love the deep red. I painted black as a undertone and then did the red shortly after giving it a nice velvety look.

So I have a good friend that requested that I paint a Lazy Susan (think I will start calling them Lazy Jeffersons) for his wife and he would actually pay me for doing this. Being that he is of a sound mind and body I agreed. So here are the results.

I kind of like this one. I like the colors and well the resin is awesome. So I am taking orders now ... oh wait I have about 4 orders to fill right now. I will get to painting on the masonite board some day, really.

So I was painting on the weekend and I was able to finish two more. The white daisy was a experiment with the center (or the scientific term is pistil). Plus I've never painted a white daisy.

The second flower was a test in abstract painting. Not what I intended but like I said it was also a test.

I still have one more to post when it's done.

New resin gives a whole new life --SOLD and SOLD

So I was using a spray on lacquer that I thought would work but after using this on the first three I came to realize that it did not stand up to heat. Then with the help on a fellow colleague at work who is an artist I came to the knowledge of a resin you can pour on. All of a sudden I was inspired when I saw the results.

With each Lazy Susan I learn how to do things differently. The resin is a final step that can really give a wonderful finished look. But imperfections in the resin show, so it takes time and effort that in the end is really worth it.

Never thought I would be painting, let alone painting flowers on lazy susans and enjoying it. I hope to branch out on a prairie series as our trip out west gave me some ideas (this would be on Masonite boards not on a lazy susan).

So a while ago my cousin Heather was having a birthday. She had mentioned that she liked the painted Lazy Susan that Anna and I received for a gift when we got married (10 years ago now). So as we were trying to figure out what to do for her I came up with an idea of painting a brown-eyed Susan on top of a plain wooden Lazy Susan. This is how it began. Since then I've paint 5 and have 3 on the go. They are in Montreal, Pincher Creek, Alberta, Yellowknife and in Orleans, Ontario.
